![]() | Some people are confused about the responsibilities of a Chair. The role is more that of a facilitator than an autocrat. This is important to undrstand as it not 'your' meeting; it is the 'members'' meeting and, as Chair, you are there to make sure that the meeting is run in an impartial manner. To be an effective Chair you need to adopt the same nurturing, caring skills as an emcee. Your task is to encourage free and open speech and where necessary to encourage the quieter members of the meeting to have their say. The position requires you to be strong enough to stop an undisciplined debate that is going nowhere.
